Moscow's Arlekin Theatre, named after a leading character of the Italian Commedia dell'arte, was founded in 1973 in Moscow by Serguei Melkonian, who heads the theatre Director to this day. Mr. Melkonian is a prolific director, respected public figure and teacher. The theatre's first production of A. Vampilov's Twenty Minutes with an Angel was performed in 1974 on the stage of the Vnukovo House of Culture in Moscow.

The Arlekin Theatre is a participant of numerous International and National Theatre Festivals, recipient of many awards and considerations.
